The assemblage entitled «Perhaps when I am over the hump with my present work I shall be able to write a critical essay» consists of three consecutive exhibitions in two display cases in the main hall of the Danish National Art Library – organized by Guattary Reading Circle. The exhibitions run in the period April through July 2015. At the opening of each of the three exhibitions a talk is presented.
The assemblage series is an extension of the ongoing research by the Guattari Reading Circle of the writings of the French psychotherapist, activist and philosopher Félix Guattari.
The second exhibition takes as its theme «The Diagnosed Body». It includes photocopied excerpts of texts by Félix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze & Félix Guattari regarding issues of schizophrenia and institutional psychiatry. These texts have all been studied in the reading sessions of the Guattari Reading Circle.
The text material is presented alongside a sculpture by Nina Wengel; works on paper by Signe Kryger Hansen and a framed double-sided work on paper by Ovartaci.
As part of the opening, it is a great pleasure to announce the talk Deterritorializing the Diagnosed Body: toward an expressive model of the mind by Kasper Levin
The opening takes place Friday, May 29 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Exhibition period 29 May – 25 June 2015.
From April 2014 the opening hours in our study room in Herlev have been extended to include Mondays as well as Tursdays and Wednesdays.
The opening hours are now between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on those three days a week.
The Danish National Art Library has seen an increase in the number of visitors to the study room since we opened it in Herlv in 2011. As it is only possible to accomodate a limited number of visitors at any one time, due to the large size and fragility of architectural drawings, oversized and rare books, we have found it reasonable to extend the hours. For the same reason, limited space, it is mandatory to reserve time for a visit as well as to order the materials you want to see.
Please remember to reserve your time of visit no later than 2 p.m. the working day before your visit. I.e. if you want to come on a Monday, you have to notify us via the Reservation form on the Friday before your visit, before 2 p.m. Also, please remember to order the materials you want to see. This happens thorugh the library catalogue.
Ved overtegning giver vi dig besked, så du ikke tager turen forgæves.
Vi glæder os til at se dig på Studiesalen!
On January 1, 2017, the State and University Library in Aarhus and The Royal Library in Copenhagen merged. The Danish National Art Library and the Administrative Library are also part of the merger.
The institutions will be collectively known as the Royal Danish Library.
The main tasks are:
• University library for Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen and Roskilde University
• Preservation of Danish cultural heritage
• Dissemination of culture and research
• Main centre for the country’s public libraries
'To a great extent, the libraries perform the same tasks when they support research and education at universities. As regards the role of national library, there are a wide range of areas where we gain great benefits from pooling and strengthening the work,' says Chief Executive Svend Larsen.
In the course of 2017, the new library will create a joint organisation. There will be a roll-out in several stages, where the goal is to minimise interference with the library’s users as much as possible. A number of services will preliminary run on the platforms and websites that users are familiar with today. The library will also retain the physical locations in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
The new leadership, in addition to Chief Executive Svend Larsen, also includes Bjarne Andersen, Pernille Drost, Kira Stine Hansen, Bodil Henriksen, Erik Hofmeister and Tonny Skovgård Jensen.
The decision to join The Royal Library and the State and University Library was taken by then-Minister for Culture Bertel Haarder (Liberal Party) in September 2016. The current Minister for Culture, Mette Bock (Liberal Alliance Party), has subsequently decided that the merged library is to be called ‘Royal Danish Library’.
