April 2007
27th. April 2007 sees the opening of the new Egmont Knowledge Centre at the Danish National Gallery. The centre houses the Children's Museum of Art, the U.L.K. art labs, a study room for drawing and graphics, as well as the Sølvgade Department of the Danish National Art Library.
The Department will house a large collection of literature on art and its history, as well as current periodicals and access to the Danish National Art Library's electronic resources. This will include typical reading room material, both general and more specific reference works, as well as monographs and catalogues dealing with individual artists. Artists represented in the collections of the Danish National Gallery are given particular prominence, just as there will be special shelves with literature linked to current exhibitions at the Gallery and to project themes in the U.L.K. art labs.
What we have in this case is a reference collection, which can only be used in situ. In the Library's database the books, which are housed in the Sølvgade Department will be marked as 'Reading room material' and 'Sølvgade'.
It will not be possible to borrow, take away from, or return books at the Sølvgade Department; for this service the library user is referred to the main department on Kongens Nytorv. In the Sølvgade Department, in addition to consulting the book collection and the periodicals department, you can be registered as a borrower and be given help to search for and make requests for materials in the Library's databases, as well as taking advantage of the Library's other electronic services on offer. The Department will also provide the venue for various library events and courses.
The Danish National Art Library's Sølvgade Department is open to all. It is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 10.00 a.m. -5.00 p.m.; Wednesday: 10.00 a.m. - 8.00 p.m. Closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

New Study Room
The newly refurbished Study Room, which is located on the 1st floor in the main building of Charlottenborg facing Kongens Nytorv (entry from the Italian Stairs) provides overall access to:
- The Collection of Architectural Drawings
- The Art Historical Picture Archive
- Weilbachs Arkiv
The architect-' firm of Fogh & Følner, working in collaboration with the Danish National Art Library have been responsible for the refurbishment of the beautiful room, which, in the 18th century was part of the premises of the architects N.H. Jardin and C.F. Harsdorff's professorial accommodation and which in the 19th century first housed parts of the Art Academy's collection of casts and subsequently the library. This is thus a room with a strong historical association with the whole subject area which has now become the Study Room - Danish Architecture and Art.
Opening times:
Tuesday - Thursday 1.00 p.m. - 5.30 p.m. Friday 1.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.

September 2006
With this fusion, which comes into effect on 1st September 2006, the Danish National Gallery and the Danish Art Library enter into a new interdisciplinary cultural-political collaboration, which, by bringing together two major collections will create Northern Europe's largest art library. As a single unit the new Danish Art Library will be able to offer users access to more than 450,000 books and periodicals; this encompasses catalogues, photographs, documents and drawings, all shedding valuable light on the history of art from Denmark and the other European countries.
The amalgamation will ensure research and the dissemination of knowledge, both within the Danish National Gallery and outside, an improved library service throughout the entire subject area. And it will at the same time broaden the access to relevant online resources, for visitors to both the Danish National Gallery and the Danish National Art Library. The collaboration opens up the possibility of exploiting these institutions' unique art-historical resources better than ever before.
It is a common goal that both the museum staff and interested members of the public across the entire country will be able to experience a marked broadening of access to data relevant to artists.
The fusion/amalgamation entails a considerable improvement and expansion of the collective storage space for the two libraries. No dismissals have been instituted in the process of amalgamation. The members of staff concerned have either transferred to the Danish National Art Library or have remained at the Danish National Gallery.
