QUESTIONS TO THE DANISH NATIONAL ART LIBRARY
If your question deals with Danish artists and architects, you can, by clicking here, search online in the national dictionary of artists and architects, Weilbach Kunstnerleksikon.
If you are looking for books or articles on Danish books and periodicals, you can, by clicking here, search in the Danish National Art Library's complete record over, the significant writings on the subject from the middle of the 17th century. This record is called Bibliografi over Dansk Kunst. (in English 'Bibliography of Danish Art.')
As a rule, major Danish libraries will have the Danish books and periodicals named in the bibliography. If not, the material can be requested through bibliotek.dk. If you live nearby (or are visiting Copenhagen), you are always welcome to request the material directly from us and collect it during opening hours or use it in the reading room.
If you are searching for information on foreign art and architecture, you can, by clicking here, search in the catalogue of books and periodicals on the subject in the Danish National Art Library. You can, for example, choose to search in all fields for the name of an artist or an architect, or for a building or a place and see if there are any hits.
If you are particularly interested in drawings and documents dealing with Danish architecture, you can, by clicking here search in the Library's Collection of Architectural Drawings. The drawings cannot be lent out, but they can be examined during opening hours in the Collection's study room. If you would like to arrange a visit, you are welcome to send an e-mail in advance and e-mail and arrange an appointment.
If you are particularly interested in archival material (such as catalogues, photos and records) about Danish artists, you can, by clicking here search in the Library's Art-Historical Image Archive and be able to see immediately whether we have anything dealing with the artist in which you are interested. The material itself cannot be lent out, but can be examined during opening hours in the study room of the Image Archive, where you can also see what relevant material is available in Weilbachs Arkiv. If you would like to arrange a visit you are welcome to send an email in advance and arrange an appointment.
If you would like to search further concerning art and architecture on the world wide web, a good place to begin is the Danish Art Libraries' joint web-project, the subject portal ARKADE. Here you can find lists of the relevant museums, image databases, dictionaries, links, libraries and much, much more.
If you wish to acquire an overview of the collections in the leading European art libraries from Rome to Berlin, from Munich to London and then beyond to, say, Los Angeles, you can access the Artlibraries.net - Virtual Catalogue for Art History with more than 8,000,000 references to relevant books, periodicals and articles registered in the leading art libraries in Europe and the USA.
If none of all this gives you the necessary help to get further under your own steam, you are always welcome to send us an e-mail with your question or questions.
